“We are very proud of the way the boys team performed tonight at our first home meet on the new track,” said Sayre coach Mark Bradley. “We had some outstanding performances due in part to the beautiful facility we now have to train on, and the outstanding work ethic of our team as a whole. The kids posted some impressive times and distances for being the first meet of the year. We are very excited to see how this season develops.”

Season Highlights
vs Can/Neb:Sayre's first track meet at its newly revamped facility ended in a split for the boys. Sayre dumped Northeast Bradford 111-38 but fell to league power Canton in a narrow 78-72 decision. Sayre's 1,600-meter relay squad of Craig Briggs, Shawn Farrelly, Nick Nasoni and Ryan Mullen posted a 4:01.1 to win in both meets. Gavin Fairlie won the 300-meter hurdles in both meets with a time of 47.85, followed by teammates Jon Palumbo (49.12) and Farrelly (51.09) and repeated that in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 18.05. Also winning in two events in both meets was Darren Reilly, who topped the field in the discus with a 132-feet, 7-inches and the javelin with a distance of 140-feet, 3-inches. Max Bennett posted a time of 11.47 to win the 100-meter dash in both meets and was second in both meets in the high jump with a leap of 5-feet, 2-inches. Also, against Northeast Bradford, Bennett won the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.53, Jeff Moyle won the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:53, and Shawn Lake won the 3,200-meter run in 11:11. Darren Reilly won the shot put with a distance of 35-feet, 2 1/2-inches, Kyle Hickey won the triple jump with a leap of 36-feet, 10 1/2-inches and Jon Palumbo won the pole vault. In addition, two relays won against the Panthers. Sayre's 400-meter relay team of Bennett, Adam James, Fairlie and Nick Nasoni won with a time of 48.09 and the 3,200-meter relay squad of Joey Hill, Jeff Moyle, Craig Briggs and Shawn Lake won with a time of 9:12.82. We are very excited to see how this season develops.” Sayre's girls also earned a split Tuesday, topping Northeast Bradford 82-66 but falling to Canton 96-54. Sayre's girls christened the new track with a come-from-behind win in the 3,200-meter relay. Alyssa Millard, Beth Walker, Rachel Polinski and Amanda Merrill ran the distance in 11:36.75 to win both meets. Walker also won the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:45.9 and the 3,200 with a time of 12:14, and Polinski won the 400 in both meets with a time of 1:11.2. Adding wins against Northeast Bradford were Shannon Licata, with a 19.5 in the 100 hurdles, Merrill with a time of 3:02 in the 800, Megan Cole in the shot put with a 28-2 throw, and the discus with a heave of 77-4, Sarah Parsons with a 73-0 in the javelin and Esther Parsons in the pole vault. In addition, the 400 relay squad of Abby O'Hara, Esther Parsons, Katie Sealander and Sarah Parsons won against NEB with a time of 1:03.7
